Q: Why did you choose Victoria University, and the chance to study in partnership with Western Bulldogs?
A: I previously studied at Victoria University as I enjoy the block mode of study. I liked the prospect for continuing that structure into a post-graduate certificate. I liked being able to focus on one subject at a time, which made time management a bit easier even when assessments and content can full of new concepts. Additionally, VU has great connections with high level sports clubs such as the Western Bulldogs, which allows students to gain experience and further learn in this industry and specialization which is invaluable.
The block model coupled with the professional experiences at the Western Bulldogs is unparalleled. Additionally, the flexibility in terms of scheduling extracurricular experiences was fantastic to blend with work and life commitments.
Q: Would you recommend Victoria University and the Western Bulldogs study experience?
A: Yes – I would recommend this to anyone who has an interest the strength and conditioning field, as the experience and coursework go hand in hand. I recommend those who are interested in the strength and conditioning specialization to enrol in this course as the content you learn when accompanied by the experience at the Bulldogs can help in navigating a complex sport science field and industry.
I did various shadow shifts and experiences during the course. During the shadow shifts with the VFL and AFL programs I was able to get an in-depth idea of what it looks like and how to be involved in a professional club. Being around the coaching staff and seeing how they communicate and work collaboratively was also invaluable, this helped me to understand how to act in a professional environment. Overall gaining experience in a high-performance environment will be hugely important for future endeavours.
